Got The Offer!

At 10:30 this morning, the Director of my team called me to extend an offer of employment. But it didn't sound like I would be getting an offer when she first began to speak, since she was almost apologetic in tone. "I just wanted to thank you again for your work this summer. I know you worked really hard, but (long pause) everyone really liked you, and (long pause) well . . . I'm happy to extend you an offer of employment and hope that you'll join us next summer." During every long pause, I remained quiet, but in my head I kept thinking, "OMG, here it comes. The bad news." LOL. I talked to a campus recruiter about an hour later and he said, "Yeah, that's how they do it here." I love this company!

So I'm 95% sure that I'll take the offer, which will put me in New York for the next few years. The details on salary, signing bonus, etc., come through on Monday. I can't wait!

Hi Jerry,

Can you email me again as I seem to have lost your address. I have the wife of a friend here who is seriously considering Yale SOM and would like someone to give her the inside scoop!

That's awesome news. Are you going on exchange this year?

Thanks, KV! As for an exchange, we don't have that. An international trip was made mandatory with the launch of the new curriculum, but the new curriculum does not affect second-year students. That said, the international trips happening in January for first-years are AMAZING. I'm sooooo jealous. I would love to meet the U.S. ambassador to Singapore, for instance. I was a year too early, unfortunately.
